Good to know

What is meant by 'home' in home insurance?

By home or building, we mean the house listed on your policy . This also includes everything that normally comes with it, such as:

  • Outbuildings up to 50 m², such as a shed, garage, veranda or garden house (not for commercial use).
  • Fences and other separations of your property.
  • Permanently fixed objects such as a swimming pool, jacuzzi, sauna or pond, including the associated canopies and covers.
  • Permanently installed items such as sun blinds, antennas, shutters, screens, AEDs and solar panels.

This way you are insured for everything that belongs to your home and well protected!

Which events are covered by home insurance?

With our home insurance, you'll always have peace of mind. We cover damage from fire and neighboring fires, lightning strikes, explosions, storms, burglary and vandalism, water or smoke damage, collisions, falling trees or cranes, and other sudden, unexpected events. This way, you can be sure that your home and everything around it is well protected, no matter what happens.

What is extra Glass coverage?

Our insurance protects you against damage caused by breakage of translucent glass in windows, doors, conservatories, or skylights. Translucent plastic in domes and skylights is also covered. And if emergency repairs are needed immediately, we'll cover those costs as well.

Please note: some types of glass and situations are not covered, such as decorations, stained glass, glass in garden sheds or grow boxes, and damage due to inherent defects. Coverage is limited during construction, vacancy, or relocation. Horizontal or curved glass is not covered, except for plastic skylights.

What is deductible?

In the event of damage, you always pay a small portion yourself: the deductible . This means we cover the majority of the damage, and you only pay an agreed-upon amount. This keeps the premium affordable while providing you with comprehensive coverage. In other words, you're insured against major costs without small amounts weighing on your budget.

What is the standard insured amount for home insurance?

Your home and everything that goes with it is insured up to a maximum of €1,000,000, so you are protected with peace of mind.

My home is worth more than the standard insured amount. What now?

Is your home valued higher than the standard insured amount? No worries! Send our sales team a message via the contact page, and we'll help you find the perfect home insurance policy that perfectly suits your situation.

What should I do if changes are made to my home?

Is there a change in your property, such as its designated use, construction type, roofing, vacancy, disuse, squatting, or other significant changes? Please inform us of these changes in writing as soon as possible.

As soon as we receive your report, we'll discuss with you whether your insurance will remain as it is, or whether a different premium or policy is required. We'll always let you know what the consequences are.

If you fail to report changes or report them too late, this may affect your right to compensation. By reporting them on time, your coverage remains clear and comprehensive.

I'm moving, but my old house is still for sale. What now?

Are you moving to a new home you own? Then take out new home insurance for the new property. You can keep your old insurance until your house is sold.

Are my solar panels insured?

Yes, solar panels are included as standard in our home insurance policy.

What is underinsurance and how do we deal with it?

Underinsurance means the insured amount is lower than the actual value of your home. In the event of damage, this can result in only a portion of the damage being reimbursed.

With home insurance up to €1,000,000, you're covered for most damages. Is the damage higher? Then we'll reimburse up to €1,000,000. For damages below this amount, you don't have to worry about being underinsured – you're simply well-protected.

Is your home worth more than €1,000,000? No worries! Send our sales team a message via the contact page, and we'll help you find the perfect home insurance policy that perfectly suits your situation.

When does coverage start and end?

The insurance begins on the date stated on the policy. Once the insurance begins, you are covered for one year. At the end of each year, we automatically renew your insurance for another year. If you do not pay the premium on time, or if fraud occurs, we can
stop insurance.

How do I cancel my home insurance?

You can cancel your insurance any day by sending a letter or email to us or VKG. The insurance ends on the day you specify. If your cancellation is received after that date, the insurance ends on the day the cancellation is received.
